Here is my transcript of studies completed back in 2009
During my time grooming, I like to keep up to date with the dog world, new equipment, and look to improve my grooming techniques, and keep my skills up to date.
Therefore like most dog lovers I attend crufts every Year, In 2012 I attended the Festival of Groomers, which included seminars from some of the worlds top groomers, this was very interesting and I learnt alot of new things inc a few techniques to improve my cuts in the salon, I shall look forwarded to attending again in the coming year.
In October 2012 I decided to enter my first ever grooming competition, I was very nervous especially as this was not just any competition this was the 2012 British Grooming Championship!
as this was my first competition they placed me in the student/new comer group and as I was grooming a Fox terrier I was in the clipped terrier and schnauzer class of around 30 others.
it was a long day my class was the first and started at 9am at the kennel club building in Coventry, grooming took 2 hours, I then had the long wait till 5pm to find out my placing.
3rd!!! I came 3rd I was absolutely delighted!! I shall look forward to competing again next year, and keeping all my skills up to date, although I shall be in the experienced class so I best get practicing : )
Here is a few other pics of certificates of achievement. which I will most certainly be keeping up to date year an year to ensure I can offer my hounds the best experience and service which I can offer.
During 2013 I have attended a few competitions, inc master groom, premier groom and competed again in the british dog grooming championships, unfortunately I didn't get placed this year in the experience class, but I had a fantastic time and was really pleased with how I groomed my chosen dogs and the dogs themselves my little stars ruby the schnauzer and benji the shihtzu behaved amazingly, I did have some lovely feedback form the judges who said my scissoring skills were beautiful.
There is lots going on next year inc the festival of grooming and seminars on the new craze asian fusion styling which I have had a go at my self (see gallery) lots of competitions to attend and again the championships so ill be looking for dogs to take with me - if you think your hound is up to being a competition dog and are happy for me to take them then please let me know - you never know your hound could be the next star although there is lots of good dogs out there has yours got the star quality?
i shall look forward to 2014 and keeping my skills and styling up to date but for now here are a few pictures taken at the championships of me in action.
2014 2014 has been a very busy year attending seminars, and competitions. February 2014 - I attended groom team england seminar where I looked closely at perfecting the schnauzer, kerry blue, poodle but for me hand stripping is where I spent most my day learning a new technique which i now offer in the salon
I had a fantastic day, I hope that by continuing to attend seminars like these I can continue to improve my grooming skills in the salon
march 2014 - we had the ever wonderful crufts where I got lots of bargains on new equipment, enjoyed shopping, watching the dogs showing and spent far too much money, its a must for every dog lover. April 2014 - we had master groom competition - I entered the lovely Bow the standard poodle into the asian fusion class and I was delighted to have gotten 3rd place, she looked amazing we had loads of fun and won lots of amazing things sooo proud of her. I hope to enter her again in more traditional trim march 2015
May 2014 - was the English Groomers challenge in london, they started the creative grooming competitions and was the first in the uk to now there are many, but this was very interetsing as Ido not currently have any customers that would be willing to let me do something so extreme - have you got the hound for this? does he love attention, does he love being groomed? please get in touch if you think your hound has what it takes to be a creative dog
June 2014 - I attended the fabulous seminar fuss about - asian fusion grooming with the wonderful and famous pammie, this unique style of grooming has become so popular in the grooming room, its easy to maintain and super cute, please check out my own gallery on this style, if this is something you want for your hound?? then please google more images and let me know upon your appointment that you want asian fusion style I will be more than happy to accommodate.
July 2014 - brought the 2nd year of festival of grooming to the belfry hotel - 2 full day weekend seminars, this is a fantastic seminar to attend it really keeps me up to speed with the ever changing world of grooming, learning about new and old techniques, this years cat seminar was very interesting, along with learning about shampoos and ph levels in the dogs coat, learning what shampoos to use on what coats, my favourite was the anatomy seminar where they painted a true to life muscle and bone structure onto a great dane and then talked about how the stresses of grooming has on these areas and what we can do in the salon to help and identifying health issues that we as groomers should be looking out for - really enjoyed these 2 days very informative and gave me lots to bring back into the salon, I shall look forward to the next one in 2016
August and september 2014 there was premier groom competition but sadly although registered I was unable to make the competition October 2014 - brought the year of competitions to an end with the "National Dog Grooming Championships" held at the kennel club, I competed in both the morning and afternoon classes with some great feedback from judges but sadly did not win anything, I had great fun and was more than pleased with my completed grooms esp. as both were completely hand scissored, never touched the clippers once which is something I don't always get time to do whilst in the salon when its busy so was a great day and pleasure to groom both dogs the lovely westie furgus and cavashon Fudge - both were excellently well behaved, stood like professionals and made me a very proud groomer to have the pleasure to groom them both.
2015 - its been a busy year and sadly iv been unable to attend as many seminars as I would of liked but however it was my most successful year as ….
Mastergoom april 2015 - I gained 1st place with the lovely coco - cockerpoo, keeping in the asian style I settled on creating a teddy bear look by cutting cute ears into her coat creating a bobble head and flared legs, I studied the cut for weeks before hand and my hard work paid off couldnt be more proud
I Also entered the work shop class with the gorgeous marley, we didn't get placed but he behaved amazingly and I was very pleased with his cut.
These were the only competitions I did during 2015 as I had other family commitments, and was kept busy enough in the salon, I feel that I may not enter any in 2016 either as I have lots to focus on with the move and our own competition but we will see what happens- watch this space.
i have been doing my level 3 city and guilds and hope to continue on to being able to teach the city and guilds in the salon to others.
